Rev City the Drip God Checks in With Hip Hop United!

Rev City, “The Drip God,” is a dope rapper and all-around creative from the D-Town (Detroit, MI). He is pushing the “Drip God” mixtape, which is available on all major platforms. The hottest new single off the tape is titled “Cook Up” and was the first completed record. The process of becoming and grinding as an artist as well as productivity during the pandemic was discussed on the check-in with Hip Hop United.

The Process:

As a youth, Rev was inspired by his older cousin who was an artist and introduced him to the music industry life. He wanted to be like him, so he and their other cousins formed a group. He distinguished himself from the others by rapping with his signature raspy voice. He continued as a professional artist from then, proudly stating that there has been no other plan besides music.Furthermore, Rev always brought an added dash of creative genius to the table. Since he was a child, he played different instruments, was in the marching band, and played the drums at his father’s church. He continued to develop and expand his skills within music and started engineering/producing. Rev was a natural because of his multifaceted background that includes a rich knowledge of instruments and his understanding of the industry.

Greatest Advice in Career:

Rev City thought back to when he was told to never take anyone for granted because you never know who a person is. “I was always the underdog but I felt like if I kept working and kept God first, everything else was going to fall in place.” This has certainly proved true just by looking at the rate that “The Drip God” is expanding his catalog.

As an Artist:

“What makes me standout is I know the game is about 90% business and only 10% talend and I’m gifted.” Actually understanding the distinction between being gifted and being talented is what keeps him focused. He vividly explained, “The people that’s talented outwork the gifted because we could do it in our sleep. I go to sleep every night thinking of that; so I know it’s easy for me to do everything I want to do in this music game, but the talented is outworking me right now… because they’re trying to be on my level.” Needless to say, he has no plans on letting his gifts go to waste nor be superseded.

During Pandemic:

Rev City has been locked in the studio working on projects and completing work with other artists since the pandemic started. He touched on about his bold body of work that boasts 5000 songs completed in 2020 alone. The rapper indicated having 50 songs and selected the hottest 13 songs to make his latest tape, “Drip God.” On average, he says that he drops 3-5 songs per day depending on mood and everything is freestyled, nothing is on paper. “All of my records are based on how I’m feeling at the moment… a lot of artistry is what you see. Sometimes you could just be riding in the car and see something different and you could talk about it… or seeing different sceneries… or maybe someone gave me  a topic… so I just go off of that.” The process may look different daily but he never takes his foot off the gas.

“Drip God” Mixtape

It took about 2 weeks to finish the whole album. What delayed him the most was favoring certain tracks. ”When you’re an artist, you can’t love on a record, because just because I like it doesnt mean theyre going to like it,” he expressed. Rev hosted a listening party and his song selections were aligned with the crowd’s tracklists. Other singles off “Drip God” include “Go-go” ft. Bigg Juan and Dash Jordan, his old group mates who he collaborates with frequently. “Big Facts” is his third single off the tape in which he takes great pride. “I feel like this is the dopest, firest, ratchest projects I’ve ever put out and I’m going to keep giving it all and give it a million percent every time,” he exclaimed. Rev City is dedicated to his fans and his artistry.

Hopeful Collaborations:

Rev City would love to do dynamic collaborations with Sade and Jill Scott. He says that he has always wanted to work with Sade because since he was a child his father would constantly play her music and Rev personally experienced the feel-good vibes that Sade’s music delivered. Her musical frequency touches and moves people and he will forever be a fan. “And the way [the music’s] arranged, I’m a musician so it makes me feel like, oh wow… she doesn’t do too much or too less.” He is definitely striving to be a legend in the making, so we are hoping to see these legendary duos sometime in the future!

Looking Forward:

Rev City promises his audience visuals for each song on tape. Fans can also expect to be entertained on screen, as he has dived into filmmaking and acting. He is also looking forward to opening new businesses, including a new studio. Securing multiple streams of income and executing the vision will remain his priority. “Y’all make sure yall lockin and run it up!,” Rev City tells Hip Hop United fans. Follow him via:
