Where are you from ?
Chicago, Illinois
Tell us about your new project and single ?
The new single that I dropped is, In mode. It’s a melodic, club record that’s up tempo. We dropped a project called ‘Keep Thrivin’ in 2020, which is out right now on all platforms. We plan to drop another project in the first quarter of next year.
What inspired it ?
I feel like I’ve been making the best music of my career lately. I was in the studio and we were running through songs. I heard the beat and just felt like I was in a mode and in my bag, hence the name.
Is it more difficult being a Midwest artist than an artist from Atlanta, LA or New York?
I definitely think it’s more difficult being from the Midwest.
What are the challenges?
The industry is known to only include down South, East coast, and the West. A lot of times the Midwest is completely ignored. Though, Chicago has had its run and Detroit is having its run right now. We definitely get overlooked.
How do you overcome it?
I overcome it by grinding, going hard, and not letting that deter me. I just realize the more I put out and the more I do, it puts me a step closer to where I want to be.
What was it like growing up in the Midwest?
Regular, everyday hood style. Not too different from any other hood. Cold and just typical struggles any black family faced without much money.
Good & bad points?
The good was being able to grow up with my brothers and being in the middle of everything. I caught all waves of music from down south to the east coast and the west coast. The bad is we didn’t have a lot of money, we lived in the projects. Dealing with the typical nigga shit.
What is your overall dream?
I want to be a household name. I want to be the best and I want to be able to make an everlasting impact on music and be able to take care of my family off music, leaving my mark.
From what we hear Your uncle is a superstar producer, how has this shaped your music?
To be honest, my uncle has been a big part of my success and my growth as an artist. He keeps it real with me, he’s honest and he tells me when he doesn’t like a song. He tells me when he doesn’t like a bar or if my vibe is off. He helped me get better as an overall artist, honestly. He opened my eyes to be more available as a musician and I appreciate him for that. No amount of money will be able to repay him for that I owe him a lot
Any tips for other artists?
Keep grinding, keep pushing, keep going crazy. Post, post, post and promote and push your music. You may not think nobody is watching or tapping in ,but trust me they are watching and they are looking. Just try to keep progressing more than you did yesterday.
What’s next for king Tez
We’re going to keep dropping singles and building up this buzz. Steadily dropping videos and then next year sometime we’ll be dropping a project. Basically, keep grinding is on the agenda.
