Kellie Bowman, the daughter of the late, great Dr. Sebi and retired nurse, checked in at Hip Hop United to answer the question, “How can we tie in to a better relationship with food?” The health connoisseur also discussed how using food as medicine has always been a culture in her household. Since retiring from nursing, she has continued her father’s legacy by opening Sebi’s Daughters, an integrative wellness and educational center that provides a combination of allopathic and homeopathic approaches that support the body in preventing and healing dis-ease.
The Foundation:
Starting from the roots, she explained how homelife has shaped her family’s strong influence within the healing community as well as her personal path. “There was no difference between Dr. Sebi and Alfredo Bowman. His love for his family led him to cook for us in a way that allowed us to live because he was sick, and he was impotent, and he was diabetic. So this journey was just not his.” Everything starts in the household and then expands outwards to the community. Dr. Sebi and his family led by example, consistently practicing their teachings, instead of just preachers. “If you love somebody you will feed them what is right… because that’s the truth of love. So everyday, whatever he took, we took,” she finished. It was made clear that healing was consistent with life itself–it was a life journey and it was never a fad for them. The pressing information that most people have been desperately searching for is where to purchase authentic Dr. Sebi’s products. Ironically, Ms. Bowman said that she ponders over this question daily. This has been one of the driving forces behind her opening Sebi’s Daughters. She continued, “It was designed to provide to others an education behind what I’ve walked with him in knowing and loving him–he was my best friend–of what I’ve used to be able to thrive. So I’ve taken what my father has taught me and turned it into a beautiful way of offering to the community and my company, Sebi’s Daughters; and I named it appropriately.” Ms. Bowman pledges to continue on this journey, leading us back to nature for answers, in a way that motivates the entire community.
Highly Effective COVID-19 Pandemic Approaches:
During the interview, Miami, FL Attorney Thasian Jordan discussed an overwhelming amount of her clients who are trying to handle their loved ones’ affairs, after the fact. She asked Mrs. Bowman what she thinks Dr. Sebi’s advice would be regarding the best course of action to combat COVID-19, particularly without getting a vaccine and by supporting the immune system naturally. “Well if I could be blunt on this show… my father would honestly say, “I told you so!” Ms. Bowman went further to explain that Dr. Sebi has taught the community benefits in eating to live and not just to survive. Ms. Jordan and Ms. Bowman also underscored the dangers of eating chicken and Attorney Jordan recalled a conversation with a Jamaican physician in Jamaica who is a large proponent of not consuming chicken. This is not only because of the animal’s high hormonal content and how it processes through our bodies, but also for how it was raised, treated, and slaughtered. Remember, we are what we consume! Additionally, Ms. Jordan also shared that she had a friend who visited Dr. Sebi’s healing center and she returned home clear of her underlying dis-ease.
Superfood Highlights:
When discussing nutrient-dense foods that alkalize the blood and body, sea moss, which is a combination of bladderwrack and Irish moss, was immediately mentioned. This superplant, which is a blend of different sea plants, provides 92 minerals out of the 102 minerals that the body requires. Adding this support to one’s system is helpful to the bones, as it carries magnesium, potassium, B12, etc., all serving as building blocks. Turmeric was also recommended for antiviral and cellular proliferation properties, serving as both an antioxidant and antiinflammatory. In other words, turmeric rids the body of dis-ease, promotes the regeneration of healthy cells/tissues, and calms overactive immune responses for the body to ward off dis-eases and sustain wellness. It is crucial to note that all supplements need to be sourced adequately, cut properly, and taken in proper ratios to benefit each person. Literally everybody has different biochemical genetic compositions, so we all require individualized protocols. Finally, Ms. Bowman highlighted that the food pyramid provides enough nutrition to sustain, but not to live with if we want to successfully combat the challenge of dis-ease. Frankly, our education behind food has failed us because most dis-eases are the result of the food we eat. It is important to note that nearly all dis-ease start in the gut, which houses a large number of immune cells (known as GALT). The message has been consistent: keeping a healthy gastrointestinal tract, ridding the body of mucus, and building up the body daily is key to being preventative instead of reactive.

Ms. Bowman expressed, “That’s what daughters do: we take what our parents give us and kind of tweak it or flip it if you will.” She graciously continues to serve the world with her lineage’s work and praises her foundation as well as the women warriors that she works with, the love and support from her family, and the community in which she counsels.
