On this impactful episode of The Check-In, Hip Hop United sits down with William “Bam” Sparks, a visionary leader whose roots run deep in Georgia’s history. A descendant of the first Black brick mason in the state, Bam carries forward a legacy of building — not with bricks today, but with technology, access, and opportunity.
Bam shares how his journey led to the creation of Culture Wireless, a Black-owned internet service provider committed to bringing high-speed connectivity to underserved communities. The idea sparked while he was at Morris Brown College, where he noticed that although the fastest internet in Atlanta was routed through Vine City, it wasn’t reaching the very communities surrounding it — including the AUC.
Determined to change that, Bam and his team spent the last four years building an ISP designed to close the digital divide and give people the bandwidth they need to “log into their dreams.” From empowering students to supporting families who lack reliable access, Culture Wireless is redefining what tech equity looks like in the South.
During the conversation, we highlights Bam’s mission-driven work, his growing visibility, and the cultural importance of expanding internet access in communities that have historically been overlooked.
This episode is a powerful reminder that true innovators don’t just create products — they create pathways. And Bam Sparks is building those pathways one neighborhood at a time.
