Rick Tha Rular checked in with Hip Hop United discussing his unwavering dedication to music, epic new releases, and upcoming projects. He wears multiple hats as a producer extraordinaire, pro-gamer, manager, husband, and father. He also made history as the first Black producer nominated for an Emmy award for the 2010 “Like a Boss” SNL skit. Rick began creating music in the 8th grade, motivated by band class and his older brother’s Casio keyboard. His hip hop icons include Jermaine Dupri, Missy, Timbaland, Pharrell, and David Banner. Editing their instrumentals helped him to perfect his own style and create his custom kits. Music was solidified as his calling when Rick was 16 and working in the mall when JD and other celebrities went into an adjacent store. After dismissing his supervisor’s threats of suspension, Rick dashed out to approach Tallboy with his beat, landing him a follow-up meeting with MempHitz.
After establishing himself in hip hop, Rick has collaborated with prolific artists including Rihanna and Nelly. The superproducer also created the introduction music for the new Tekken–his favorite video game. His dream collaboration is a female powerhouse with Cardi B, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna on a legendary record. Currently, Rick is working with Post Malone and Swae Lee. King T3z, his newest artist/nephew, has a project made fully in-house called “Keep Thriving.” His TikTok video reached 2M views, but we can’t discuss it!
